ok - after my end-of-art-drought scribble of grinspoon last week - here is the real deal - i guess 15 hours plus spent on this baby - grinspoon's looopy vocalist phil jamieson - although i dont think this picture comes even close to capturing his persona and spirit; he looks introspective and amost vunerable here; perhaps it matches the mood of the new cd - but this shots' always grabed my eye when ever i floated around their site - a beautiful display of light and shadows - but such a tiny reference photo to work with - i seriously considered writing to the site admin and asking for a decent copy to use - but i guess they would have thought i was a bit weird ... that would be something new
It never ceases to amaze me tho - these people on here that make thier portraits look like photographs - they must have soooo much patience - no matter how much i work on a something - i never seem to be able to capture that true likeness - passable yes, but never that photographic perfection. I get sick of it first. I guess it is the patience factor that ruins things - 1/2 a day or so is enough for me - even if it is put it down, pick it up, put it down progress. I just cant nail myself to something - anything for that matter - like i perhaps should be.
anyway, who know if he'll actually ever see this - if he does - philip, your hair is a complete pain in the arse to draw - but i'm reasonably happy with this - it's the first serious piece i've done in months, and it's opened the floodgates art wise - or at least their music has - go buy it aussie people ... g r i n s p o o n
now I just need to drag my arse to sydney and stay lucid enough to actually remember a gig ....
uhh ... original is 30b42 graphite on paper. this version has had a tiny tweak or two in corel photopaint.
and no more smelly rockstars for now - back to dragons and faeries for me .... wwhhheeeeee!!
Wow...the shading and everything is really awesome.
Uhm...I was just thinking of some way you could imrpove it and it came to me that the eye should probably be a bit lower down I think.
It just doesn't look right...I think it needs to be moved down 'cause human's usually have eyes halfway down their faces even if it doesn't look like it.
Uhm...no offence but I think he looks a little fishlike how he is at the moment.
Hope my critique helps and isn't too offensive or anything..
